Welcome to Nannotax

Objective: To provide a user-editable site covering nannofossil taxonomy and biostratigraphy

What's on at the moment: Overview of Neogene nannofossil taxonomy, including  images of most taxa, a searchable bibliography of Neogene nannofossil literature, short descriptions of species and higher taxa.

What you can do:

  • Use the galleries, bibliography and nannofossils menus and search box (top left & top right) to explore the current content
  • Use the forum to discuss this site or related topics
  • Create a user/contributor account and help develop the site
  • Read more

Can't find a species you think should be in the system?

  • Do a search on the species name - the taxonomy is my subjective view of a useful taxonomy and many species are included as variants or synonyms of other species (e.g. Ceratolithus rugosus is listed as a synonym of C. cristatus).
  • If you do find the taxon listed as a synonym/variant add a comment to that page explaining why you think it is useful to discriminate it, and how you discriminate it.
  • If you can't find the species add a comment to the relevant genus page.
