Sphenolithus dissimilis Bukry and Percival, 1971

Description: Similar to S. moriformis but with apical cycle of elements extended to form circlet of spines.

Remarks: Various other species have been described for Early Miocene sphenoliths with a circlet of spines: Sphenolithus cometa de Kaenel and Villa, 1996,  S. multispinatus Maiorano & Monechi 1997, S. procera Maiorano & Monechi 1997.   

Range: Oligocene - NN3.
