Sphenolithus moriformis
Description: Beehive shaped sphenolith, apical elements not in extinction in vertical poition. No spine, upper and lower parts of similar size.
Remarks: Lower and Middle Miocene sphenoliths are highly variable and S. moriformis is something of a bucket identification.
Size: 3-8 microns (size varies considerably between samples, but there have been no systematic studies)
Range: E. Eocene to NN10.
Synonym: S. pacificus Martini, 1965.
Variant: S. compactus Backman, 1980 - small form.
